New Patient Form
Pediatric
dentists are the pediatricians of dentistry. We are
specially trained for the unique dental health needs of
children. Beyond the dental degree, our
professional education includes completing a two-year
hospital residency program at a children's hospital
where advanced training, including child psychology,
pediatric sedation, oral-facial trauma management,
growth and development, and working with the mentally
and physically handicapped, is obtained. We are
also qualified to provide dental treatment in the
operating room.
At
your child's first appointment, we will examine the
teeth, gums, and soft tissue. With your permission
after the exam, we will take any necessary x-rays
to complete our dental evaluation. Your child's
teeth may be cleaned and treated with a topical fluoride
solution. Following this, we will discuss our
findings with you, propose a treatment plan and explain
the options available, with an estimate of cost
involved.
If your child is an infant
or toddler, we may ask you to assist us by holding your
child on your lap while we complete our exam. If
this is the first dental visit for your child, you may
find it helpful to give a very brief and simple
explanation, such as, "Tomorrow you will be seeing the
dentist who is going to check your teeth. The
dentist and her helpers will tell you all about what
they will be doing." Parents are cautioned not to
over explain what will or will not be done. We ask
that you do not make any specific promises to your child
you may be unable to keep. It is also important
your child does not sense any anxiety you may be feeling
about
this visit.
